At 16, while rummaging through a closet where her mother had kept important documents in, Jessica Witzel-Hickling discovered that she was an adopted child. From a newspaper obituary her adoptive parents had kept, she learned that her biological father, Robert Gordon, was killed while serving in World War 2. Robert was also Kathleen Gordon-Rowan’s father, whom she knew very little about. She was only an infant when he died in combat. And he was talked about minimally at home after her mother had remarried. She had a boxful of letters her parents had written to each other but never read any of them – not until much later when she already had a family of her own. From the letters, it emerged that Robert had a child from a previous relationship who had been given up for adoption. The child’s name: Jessica Witzel.
The half-sisters found each other as their paths crossed at a reunion of war veterans belonging to the 157th Regiment, their father’s unit in the military. “I don’t think it was a coincidence,” said Jessica on It’s A Miracle TV show. “God made it happen for us.”
God also made it happen for Abraham’s servant while out on a task to find a wife for his master’s son, Isaac (Genesis 24:1-51). At the outset, Abraham had told his servant that God will send his angel before him and let him accomplish what he was charged to do (Verse 7). The servant prayed for and did have success. That he and Rebekah, who became Isaac’s wife, ended up being at the same place, at the same time (Verses 12-15) was no coincidence; rather, it was a divinely orchestrated moment in answer to prayer. Truth is, only God can cause one to be at the right place, at the right time.
